NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep paying — OpenAI has not replaced it
OpenAI's version overlaps, but does not finish the finance job, so this one still earns its $1,500/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Generic LLM invoice readers extract data but lack Vic.ai's accounting-grade coding accuracy and audit trail. OpenAI, April 23, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? paid only
- 3 replacements listed, all paid.
- What the call is worth $18,000/yr
- $1,500/mo at the entry paid tier — $18,000 a year per seat.

The backstory
ai uses purpose-built computer vision and years of training on invoice data to hit 97 to 99 percent processing accuracy on non-PO invoices, a level of precision that matters when a wrong GL code causes a real accounting error. A generic AI model can pull text off a PDF, but matching that data to the right vendor, cost center and approval chain reliably, at volume, with an audit trail a controller will sign off on, is a different and harder problem.
