Already free, already compliant, nothing to undercut.
NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep it — OpenAI has not replaced it
OpenAI's version overlaps, but does not finish the finance job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Free accounting is not a target for disruption. OpenAI, July 6, 2023 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 1 of 2 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Zoho Books.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Wave gives away accounting and invoicing and makes money on payments and payroll. A free product sitting on a payments business, wrapped in a regulatory moat, is close to the safest shape in this archive. AI improved receipt capture and transaction categorisation, both of which Wave folded in as features rather than facing as competition. Nobody can undercut zero, and nobody can prompt their way past a tax filing deadline.
