The backstory
VSCO built its business on film-look photo presets sold as a subscription, prized by mobile photographers for a distinct aesthetic. The preset library was the product, and presets are trivially copied and shared, while AI photo editing now does look-matching automatically, applying a style from a reference image without any preset at all. VSCO is wounded because both its scarcity and its manual workflow are undercut: the looks are easy to replicate and the AI does the color grading for you. Its community and curation linger, but the core value has leaked away.
