The backstory
PolyAI spent years building conversational voice agents that handle interruptions and accents gracefully, selling to hotels, banks and utilities. Much of that hard-won engineering became commoditised when frontier realtime models arrived and did the conversational part out of the box. What PolyAI retains is enterprise integration, deployment experience and reliability at call-centre scale, which is real but is now a services advantage rather than a technology one.
