The backstory
Hugging Face hosts open model weights, datasets and Spaces demos, and maintains the libraries most of the ecosystem imports. Labs including Meta ship weights through their own portals and cloud partners, which could route traffic away from the Hub. In practice almost every release still lands on Hugging Face first because that is where discovery, downloads and evaluation happen. Being the distribution layer for other people's models is a strong position.
