Blender
Free, open-source 3D that AI has not come close to replacing.
why this verdict
Keep it — OpenAI has not replaced it
OpenAI's version overlaps, but does not finish the design job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Generative 3D models. OpenAI, June 1, 2024 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 1 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Luma AI.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel

The backstory
Blender is the free, open-source 3D suite used for modeling, animation, simulation, shading and rendering across hobbyists and studios. Text-to-3D tools from big labs can spit out a mesh, but a mesh is not a production scene. Rigging, physics, UVs, lighting and pipeline integration are exactly the deep craft generation has not touched, and since Blender costs nothing there is no subscription for AI to undercut. AI just becomes another node in the workflow.
