The backstory
WooCommerce is free, open-source commerce built on top of WordPress, for people who want to own their store and stack. AI site and store generators can scaffold a shop quickly, but that speeds up building, not owning. WooCommerce survived because self-hosting, full data control, no platform lock-in and a vast plugin ecosystem are the whole point, and generation does not remove the reasons people choose to run their own store.
