Vast.ai
Marketplace that rents spare GPU capacity from datacentres and individuals.
KINDA
why this verdict
Keep it for the workflow, not the AI
OpenAI's version covers the headline feature only — the workflow around it is what still does the work.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Cheap hosted inference APIs making marketplace GPU rental unnecessary for most workloads. OpenAI, September 25, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers headline only editorial call
- The headline feature, but not the workflow, data or integrations around it.
- Is there a free way to do it? paid only
- 3 replacements listed, all paid.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Vast.ai is the eBay of GPUs: providers list idle hardware, renters bid, and prices land well below every managed cloud. That works brilliantly for experimentation and terribly for anything needing guarantees, since machines vary in reliability and can vanish. As inference moved to hosted APIs and serious training moved to reserved capacity, the middle where Vast is strongest thinned out, leaving hobbyists, researchers on grants and image generation workloads that tolerate interruption.
