The backstory
Typesense is the open-source answer to Algolia's pricing: sub-fifty-millisecond typo-tolerant search you can run yourself, with a hosted option if you would rather not. Its category is under real pressure as sites replace the search box with a chat answer. Typesense benefits from where that pressure lands, though, because retrieval-augmented generation still needs a fast keyword index underneath the model, and it added vector and hybrid search early enough to be that layer.
