Tailwind CSS
The utility-first CSS framework most AI-generated UI is written in.
NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep it — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the design job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- AI writes plain CSS as easily as utility classes. Anthropic, January 1, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 2 of 2 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Plain CSS and Panda CSS.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Tailwind's flat vocabulary of utility classes turned out to be unusually easy for models to emit correctly, so it became the default output of nearly every AI UI generator. Its risk is not replacement but sameness — a web where everything a model produces looks broadly alike.
