NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep paying — OpenAI has not replaced it
OpenAI's version overlaps, but does not finish the video job, so this one still earns its $20/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Video models generating lip-synced speech natively, removing the separate sync step. OpenAI, December 9, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? paid only
- 3 replacements listed, all paid.
- What the call is worth $240/yr

The backstory
Sync does one narrow thing extremely well: take a video and an audio track and make the mouth match, which is the unglamorous core of dubbing, localisation and avatar products. Generative video increasingly produces synced speech natively, which threatens the standalone step. What keeps demand is that most video in the world already exists, and retrofitting a new language onto footage that was shot months ago is a different job from generating a new clip.
