The backstory
Shutterstock is a giant stock-photo library facing an age of infinite generated images. When GPT-4o or Midjourney can make exactly the picture you described, licensing a generic stock photo loses its point. Shutterstock is wounded because the interchangeable commercial imagery at the heart of its catalog is the easiest thing to replace with a prompt. It hedged smartly, licensing its library to AI companies for training revenue and launching its own generator, but the core business of selling stock shots is squarely in the blast radius.
