The backstory
Seedance came out of ByteDance's Seed research group and immediately posted competitive results on video benchmarks, with unusual strength in maintaining a subject across multiple shots and following camera direction. Coming from the company that owns TikTok gives it a distribution path no independent lab has. Its constraint is the same one facing every Chinese model in this space: Western creative teams and their legal departments increasingly ask where the weights run before they ask how good the output is.
