KINDA
why this verdict
Keep it for the workflow, not the AI
pgvector and Pinecone cover the headline feature free, and the workflow around it is why you would still open this.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- General databases added good-enough vector search. OpenAI, January 1, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers headline only editorial call
- The headline feature, but not the workflow, data or integrations around it.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 2 of 2 listed replacements have a usable free tier: pgvector and Pinecone.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Qdrant is fast, self-hostable and genuinely good at filtered vector search at scale. Its problem is the same as the whole category's: most teams discover their corpus fits in Postgres, and the ones who need more often need a full search engine rather than vectors alone.
