Downgrade — pay for the workflow, not the AI

The backstory
Meilisearch is an easy-to-run search engine that gives an app instant, typo-tolerant results without the operational weight of Elasticsearch. Its wedge was that good search was hard to add. The OpenAI Responses API ships hosted file search over uploaded documents, and cheap embeddings mean semantic retrieval is a short script. Meilisearch answered with hybrid search of its own. Sub-millisecond keyword ranking and self-hosting still matter for product search, so it keeps a real audience.
