Gemini CLI
Google's open-source terminal agent with a very large free daily request allowance.
why this verdict
Keep it — Google has not replaced it
Google's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one is still worth keeping open.

The backstory
Gemini CLI put an agentic coding tool in the terminal with an unusually generous free tier, which made it the default way a lot of developers tried this class of tool at all. It is Apache-licensed and extensible through MCP, so it doubles as a general scripting agent rather than only a coding one. Quality comparisons still tend to favour the paid competition on hard multi-step work, but a free tool with a million-token context window changes who gets to participate.
