Airbyte
Open-source data integration with hundreds of community-maintained connectors.
why this verdict
Keep it — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the data & BI job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- AI agents making custom extraction scripts cheap enough to skip a connector platform. Anthropic, July 8, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 1 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: dlt.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Airbyte's strategy was to make connector count a community problem rather than an engineering one, and it worked: the catalogue is far larger than any managed vendor's, and anything missing can be built with a connector development kit. Quality varies precisely because the community maintains it. As AI agents make writing a one-off extraction script trivial, Airbyte's value shifts from having the connector to running it reliably with scheduling, state and normalisation.
