The backstory
Tabby is a self-hosted Copilot alternative that runs on your own GPU so source code never leaves the building. That trade made sense while the quality gap between a small local model and a hosted one was narrow. It is not narrow now, and enterprise deals with zero-retention terms removed the compliance reason for most buyers. Tabby remains a fine project for air-gapped environments, but the mainstream case for running your own completion server has gone.
