NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep it — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Synthetic data pipelines replacing paid human annotation for many training tasks. Anthropic, June 12, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? paid only
- 3 replacements listed, all paid.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Surge AI competes on quality rather than volume, recruiting genuinely expert annotators and paying them properly, which turned out to be the thing frontier labs cared about most as training moved from raw scale to careful reinforcement learning. Synthetic data handles the easy cases now. What it cannot do is provide a domain expert's judgement on a hard question, and the shift to reasoning models made exactly that kind of data the scarce input. Staying independent became a competitive advantage in itself.
