Pydantic AI
Type-safe Python agent framework from the team behind Pydantic.
why this verdict
Keep it — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- First-party agent SDKs from OpenAI and Anthropic covering the same ground natively. Anthropic, August 5, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 3 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph and Instructor.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Pydantic AI brings the thing Python developers already trust about Pydantic, validated typed data, to agent building, so tool arguments and structured outputs are checked rather than hoped for. It arrived into a crowded field but carried unusual credibility, since Pydantic is a dependency of nearly every Python AI library including the official SDKs. Structured output validation is exactly where agents fail quietly, and owning that primitive is a better position than owning another orchestration abstraction.
