Nx
Monorepo build system with computation caching and a dependency graph across projects.
why this verdict
Keep paying — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one still earns its $21/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Agents navigating giant repos directly, reducing the need for a tool that explains project structure. Anthropic, August 12, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 3 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Turborepo, Bazel and Moon.
- What the call is worth $252/yr
- $21/mo at the entry paid tier — $252 a year per seat.

The backstory
Nx makes large multi-project repositories tractable by understanding which packages depend on which, then only rebuilding and retesting what actually changed. One argument for it used to be legibility, and agents that can read an entire repo weaken that. The economic argument is untouched: distributed caching turns a forty-minute CI run into four, and that bill grows rather than shrinks when agents are opening pull requests around the clock.
