Kestra
Open-source orchestration platform with declarative YAML workflows in any language.
why this verdict
Keep it — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the automation job, so this one is still worth keeping open.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Airflow's entrenched position and cloud-native orchestration bundled into data platforms. Anthropic, November 4, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 2 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Airflow and Windmill.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Kestra orchestrates workflows declaratively in YAML while letting each task run in whatever language suits it, which sidesteps the Python-only assumption baked into most data orchestrators. That polyglot stance fits organisations whose pipelines involve Java services, shell scripts and SQL as much as Python. Airflow's incumbency is enormous, and declarative configuration turned out to be an unexpected advantage in the agent era because YAML is something a model reliably generates correctly.
