NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep paying — Microsoft has not replaced it
Microsoft's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one still earns its $4/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked

- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? paid only
- 3 replacements listed, all paid.

The backstory
Hetzner sells plain virtual and dedicated servers at prices the hyperscalers do not attempt to match, which is why it keeps appearing in indie hacker cost breakdowns. Microsoft and other clouds bundle AI credits and managed agent environments to keep workloads on their platform. That pulls some new projects away. But the reason people run on Hetzner is the bill, and no AI feature makes an expensive server cheap. Cheap metal is a durable business.
