Keep paying — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the security job, so this one still earns its $8/mo.

The backstory
Doppler replaced the shared env file with a single source of truth that syncs secrets into CI, containers and every cloud a team uses. The AI era made this more urgent rather than less: coding agents read whole repositories, so a credential committed by accident is now exposed to a model and everything downstream of it. Doppler's growth argument writes itself, and the main pressure is competitive rather than existential, with open-source Infisical undercutting it and cloud-native vaults bundled free.
