DigitalOcean
Simple cloud hosting with predictable pricing, built for developers rather than procurement.
NOT REALLY
why this verdict
Keep paying — Anthropic has not replaced it
Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one still earns its $4/mo.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Agent-deployed apps defaulting to zero-config platforms that need no server concept at all. Anthropic, June 3, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers not the job editorial call
- Parts of it. The job still needs the tool to get finished.
- Is there a free way to do it? paid only
- 3 replacements listed, all paid.
- What the call is worth $48/yr
- $4/mo at the entry paid tier — $48 a year per seat.

The backstory
DigitalOcean's whole proposition is that a droplet costs a flat few dollars and the dashboard fits in your head, which is the opposite of AWS. Agent-driven deploys push toward platforms with no server abstraction at all, and that erodes the entry-level VPS. It is holding because predictable pricing is exactly what a solo founder wants when an agent might accidentally provision something expensive, and its managed Kubernetes and GPU droplets moved it up the stack without abandoning the price story.
