KINDA
why this verdict
Keep it for the workflow, not the AI
Cline and Zed cover the headline feature free, and the workflow around it is why you would still open this.
- A named launch, not a vibe named, unlinked
- Cursor and first-party agents outpaced open-source IDE assistants. Anthropic, February 24, 2025 — no announcement link recorded yet.
- How much of the job it covers headline only editorial call
- The headline feature, but not the workflow, data or integrations around it.
- Is there a free way to do it? yes
- 2 of 3 listed replacements have a usable free tier: Cline and Zed.
- What the call is worth nothing to cancel
- No paid entry tier tracked, so there is no subscription to cancel.

The backstory
Continue's pitch is that you should own your AI coding setup — any model, local or hosted, with your own context providers. That is still true and still valued in regulated shops, but the mainstream moved to editors where the agent is the product, and configuring your own stack is now the expensive path.
