The backstory
Connected Papers builds a visual similarity graph of academic papers to help researchers map a field and find prior work. Claude can suggest related readings, but it cannot reliably reproduce the citation-and-similarity graph built on a curated scholarly database, and it can hallucinate references. The structured, verifiable graph over real metadata is the moat. Because the visualization rests on trusted data, it survives.
