why this verdict

Keep paying — Anthropic has not replaced it

Anthropic's version overlaps, but does not finish the dev tools job, so this one still earns its $39/mo.

The backstory

Browser-using agents created demand for something nobody wants to operate: fleets of stealthy, session-persistent, captcha-surviving browsers. Browserbase runs them as an API, and its Stagehand library gives agents natural-language control of a page. The models got the capability; this is the plumbing under it.

Escape hatches

2 of 3 replacements have a usable free tier.
